The Former Mizuta Family Residence is a registered "Tangible Cultural Property of Japan" located in Chiba's Kamogawa City. This home was the birthplace of Mikio Mizuta, an influential politician and statesman of post-war Japan, and founder of Josai University. Although many preserved houses in Japan have been relocated from their original properties, the Mizuta family house has been here since it was built in the late-Edo period over 150 years ago. This makes it possible to experience not only the beauty of the traditional architecture, but also to get a feel for how the house fit within its surroundings as a living space for past generations.

Haraoka Pier holds its place as a humble but locally famous destination along the Chiba coast. Its sparse wooden and concrete frame only goes out a few dozen meters into the sea, and a single strand of lights runs along the left side to illuminate it at night. It has provided the setting for numerous photographs, commercials and films, and is also known as a Mt. Fuji viewing spot. The best chance to catch a view of Mt. Fuji from here is on clear days, or as pictured, when the colors of the evening sky outline its imposing silhouette on the horizon. In any weather conditions though, this off-the-beaten-path location tends to keep a special place in the hearts of those who visit.

📍 Tateyama City, Sunosaki Shrine
On clear days, Chiba’s Tateyama City is known as one of the best places to catch views of Mt. Fuji from across the sea. No matter where you are along the Tateyama coast, you’re never going to find yourself too far from a Fuji lookout spot. Tateyama’s location along the west coast of Chiba also makes stunning sunsets here a regular occurrence, and for a couple days in both May and July you can even catch a glimpse of the Diamond Fuji–a view of the sun setting directly over Mt. Fuji’s summit.

🍜 Chuka-soba Tomita is one of Japan’s most highly-regarded ramen chains and its home base can be found right here in Chiba’s Matsudo City, just a 5-minute walk from Matsudo Station. They are best known for their tsukemen, a type of ramen where noodles are served with a bowl of dipping sauce.
📷 Pictured: Tsukemen paired with ‘tokusen-zenbu-nose’ (“everything” special topping). Slices of tender “TOKYO X” brand pork—each one a different cut and uniquely seasoned—are delicately arranged alongside a giant ‘shumai’ dumpling.
📣 The legendary owner Mr. Tomita is present here in the kitchen preparing each dish with precision, making a visit here a very exclusive experience. In fact, you’ll need one of the numbered tickets that are distributed here from 8 AM each morning to enter the restaurant. Tickets have a designated time slot on them, and you return to the restaurant for your meal when it’s your assigned time. Since this is such a popular place, tickets can even run out within the first 30 minutes!
ℹ️ If you’d like to try this chain’s famous flavors in a more casual setting, head to Tomita Shokudo, located just outside Matsudo Station. Other Tomita branches can be found around Chiba Prefecture and Tokyo, including one shop right inside JR Chiba Station.

📍 Kasamori Kannon
@kasamorikannon
The main hall at Kasamori Temple, also known as Kasamori Kannon, is the only temple building of its kind in Japan. It’s similar to other traditional buildings which were built in the ‘Kakezukuri’ style--the use of wooden poles to support a structure that's built directly over a slanted surface like a cliff or a riverbank. However, Kasamori Kannon goes the extra step of employing a ‘Shiho-kakezukuri’ design, meaning that all four corners and sides of the building are supported in this style.
The temple was built this way in order to house a wooden statue of the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy, known as Kannon in Japanese, which was carved into the hilltop here as far back as the year 784. Today, the temple grounds are found within a protected old growth forest, adding even more mystique to this unique location. Visitors can climb the stairs up to the temple hall and soak in the dense nature which spans in all directions. You can also explore the unique sights of the forest, like the ‘San-bon-Sugi’ three-trunked cedar tree or the ‘Kosazuke-no-Kusu’ camphor tree of conception.

Mt. Kano Kujukutani Outlook Park is located on Mt. Kano, the second highest peak in Chiba. The park overlooks the Kujukutani Valley and the surrounding mountains of the Boso Peninsula, earning this spot official recognition as one of Chiba’s 100 Best Views. This location also offers visitors a chance to look down on the ‘unkai’ sea of clouds that is known to appear over the valley below. This sight is most likely to occur from the fall to early spring, usually on mornings after a rainfall.
